Terms of Service
Effective date: July 20, 2026 · Last updated: July 20, 2026
We've written these in plain English so you'll actually read them. The short version: your content is yours, be decent to the people you cook with, and use your own judgment in the kitchen.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Frigo LLC ("Frigo," "we," "us"), based in Portland, Oregon, governing your use of the Frigo mobile app and related services. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy, which explains what information we collect and how we use it. Questions: support@cookfrigo.com.
1. Agreeing to these Terms
By creating a Frigo account — including checking the agreement box at sign-up — or by using the app, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Frigo.
2. Eligibility & your account
- Age. You must be at least 13 years old to use Frigo. By creating an account you represent that you are.
- Invite-only. Frigo currently requires an invite code to join. We may change or discontinue invite-only access at any time.
- One account, accurate info. Keep one personal account, with a working email address. Don't use someone else's account or create accounts for others without permission.
- Security. Keep your password confidential — you're responsible for activity under your account. If you suspect unauthorized use, tell us at support@cookfrigo.com.
3. Your license to use the app
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Frigo on your own devices for personal, non-commercial use. Don't copy, modify, resell, or reverse-engineer the app (except where the law expressly permits), and don't use it to break the law or these Terms.
4. Your content
"User Content" is anything you create in Frigo — posts, meals, photos, recipes and notes, comments, pantry entries, and profile details.
You own your User Content. So that the app can work, you grant Frigo a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and process it — to operate, provide, and improve the service: for example, showing your posts to the people your visibility settings allow, computing your stats, and powering the app's AI features as described in the Privacy Policy. You also agree that we may create and use de-identified or aggregated data derived from User Content and app activity (data that no longer identifies you), as described in the Privacy Policy. Where the Privacy Policy offers an opt-out for a specific improvement use — such as using your scan photos to improve Frigo's recognition features — this license is subject to that choice. This license is bounded by the visibility you choose for each post, gives us no right to sell your content or use your identifiable content for advertising, and ends when you delete the content or your account — except for content that is already part of another person's experience through normal app features (for example, a friend's dish on a meal you hosted), de-identified data already created, and as described in the Privacy Policy's account-deletion section.
You promise that you have the rights to what you post and that posting it doesn't violate anyone else's rights or any law.
Feedback. If you send us ideas, suggestions, or feedback about Frigo, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free license to use them without restriction or obligation to you. (And thank you.)
5. Content standards — and no tolerance for abuse
Don't post content or use Frigo in a way that:
- is spam or unsolicited promotion;
- harasses, bullies, threatens, or abuses another person;
- contains nudity or sexually explicit material;
- is hateful or promotes discrimination;
- depicts or promotes violence;
- is illegal or promotes illegal activity;
- infringes someone else's rights — including posting cookbook or recipe content you don't have rights to (see §11);
- impersonates any person;
- scrapes, bulk-downloads, or systematically retrieves content or data from the app — including recipes — whether by bot, script, or automated tool, without our written permission;
- circumvents or interferes with the app's security features or rate limits, or disrupts or unduly burdens the service; or
- is otherwise objectionable or harmful to other users or to Frigo.
Frigo has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. We may remove any content, and suspend or terminate any account, that we reasonably determine violates these standards — without prior notice. We may (but are not obligated to) review or monitor content in the app to enforce these Terms. We aim to review reports and act on them, including removing content and ejecting the responsible user where warranted, within 24 hours.
Reporting and blocking. You can report any post, comment, or profile in-app, or email support@cookfrigo.com. You can also block any user from their profile — blocking hides your content and theirs from each other entirely.
6. Recipes & cookbooks
Recipes you add — whether by photo, link, by hand, or any other way the app supports — are your User Content. However they come in, you're responsible for making sure you have the right to save what you import.
If you unlock a cookbook through ownership verification, you may only do so for a physical book you actually own, and the proof you submit must be genuine. Recipes delivered this way are extracted by automated tools and provided for your personal use in the app — not for redistribution or resale. Unless we expressly say otherwise, content in Frigo is not endorsed, authenticated, or licensed by its original author, creator, or publisher. We may change how third-party content is delivered — including narrowing or removing delivered content — to respect authors', creators', and publishers' rights or to comply with law.
7. AI features
Frigo includes features powered by artificial intelligence — today, for example, reading recipes from photos and links, scanning receipts and pantry shelves, and cooking suggestions. These features may change, expand, or be retired over time. AI output is automated and can be wrong — incomplete, inaccurate, or a misreading of the source. Nutrition figures are estimates, not verified nutritional or medical analysis. Review AI-generated content before relying on it, especially ingredients, quantities, and anything allergy- or health-related.
8. Cooking & food safety
Content on Frigo is for informational purposes. You are solely responsible for safe food handling and for judging whether any recipe suits your health, allergies, or dietary needs. Frigo does not review recipes for allergens or verify their safety or nutritional accuracy. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Frigo disclaims liability for illness, injury, or other harm arising from preparing or consuming food based on content in the app.
9. Frigo's intellectual property
The app itself — its design, branding, logo, and software — belongs to Frigo LLC or our licensors. These Terms don't transfer any of that to you beyond the license in §3.
10. Ending things
You can leave any time. Delete your account in the app (currently Settings → Delete Account) — the Privacy Policy describes exactly what deletion removes and the narrow cases where content is retained in de-identified form or handed off to other users. You can export your data first (currently Settings → Download my data).
We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, create risk or legal exposure, or where the law requires it. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (4, 7, 8, 9, and 12–15) survive.
11. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Frigo infringes your copyright, email support@cookfrigo.com with: the work, where the material appears in the app, your contact information, a good-faith statement that the use is unauthorized, and a statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and you're authorized to act. We'll review and act on valid notices, including removing material and, for repeat infringers, terminating accounts.
12. No paid features today
Frigo currently has no paid subscriptions or in-app purchases. If we introduce them, we'll update these Terms first with the pricing, billing, and cancellation details, and you'll see them before anything charges you.
13. Disclaimers
THE APP AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED — INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS AFFECTS STATUTORY RIGHTS THAT CANNOT BE WAIVED BY CONTRACT.
14. Limitation of liability & indemnity
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FRIGO LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP; AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF $100 OR THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS.
You agree to indemnify Frigo LLC against claims and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your User Content, your use of the app, or your violation of these Terms or another's rights.
15. Governing law, changes & general
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Notices and agreements we provide electronically — in the app or by email — satisfy any legal requirement that they be in writing, and you consent to receiving them that way. If we make material changes to these Terms, we'll notify you in the app or by email and update the date above; continuing to use Frigo after changes take effect means you accept them. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect; our not enforcing a provision isn't a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger or sale, with notice. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and Frigo about the app.
