Privacy Policy

We've written this in plain English so you'll actually read it. It describes what the app really does — nothing more, nothing less.

Frigo is a mobile app for tracking your cooking, organizing your recipes, managing your pantry, and sharing your cooking with people you choose. Frigo is operated by Frigo LLC, based in Portland, Oregon. This policy explains what personal information Frigo collects, why, who processes it on our behalf, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. Questions any time: privacy@cookfrigo.com.

The short version

We collect what you give us to run your account and the app: your name and email, your photos and posts, your recipes, pantry, and cooking history, and your connections to the people you cook with.
We use it to operate Frigo, personalize it to your cooking, and improve it. We may also build de-identified, aggregated views of community activity (data that doesn't identify you) to make Frigo better.
We do not sell your personal information. We show no ads, use no advertising or analytics SDKs, and do not track you across other apps or websites.
A small number of service providers process data on our behalf — principally Supabase (database, sign-in, photo storage) and Anthropic (AI recipe and pantry reading).
You can download a copy of your data and delete your account from inside the app, any time.

What we collect

These categories cover what Frigo collects today. If the app starts collecting something new, we'll update this policy first.

Account information — your first and last name, your email address, and a password. Your password is handled and hashed by our authentication provider (Supabase Auth); we never see or store it in readable form.
Profile details — a display name, and optionally a bio, an avatar photo, and a free-text location (a city you type in — Frigo does not collect GPS or device location).
Cooking posts — the dishes and meals you log: titles, notes, ratings, cooking method, and dates.
Photos — pictures you attach to dishes, meals, recipes, or your profile, plus scans you take in the app (pantry shelves, receipts, bookshelves). Post, recipe, and scan photos are stored in public storage buckets, which means someone with a photo's direct file URL could view that image file; who sees your posts inside Frigo is governed by your visibility settings. Cookbook ownership-verification photos are stored privately.
Recipes — recipes you add by photo, link, or by hand, plus your notes and edits.
Pantry & grocery data — the supplies you track and your grocery lists, including in shared pantry spaces.
Nutrition & stats — figures like calories, protein, and vegetable share, derived from what you cook, plus any nutrition goals you set. This is nutrition information about your cooking, not medical data, and Frigo does not connect to Apple Health.
Social connections — who you follow, who follows you, and the meals you share or are tagged in; plus the comments and likes you leave.
Push notification token — if you enable notifications, a device token used to deliver them. It identifies your device to our push provider, not to advertisers.
Invite attribution — Frigo is invite-only, so we record which invite code created your account.
Cookbook verification photos — if you verify you own a physical cookbook, the proof photo you submit is stored privately, visible only to you and an authorized reviewer, and used solely to review that claim.
Basic technical data — like any online service, our servers automatically record standard technical information with each request (your IP address and device/app details) in server logs, used for security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting — not for advertising or behavioral analytics.

What we don't collect

No advertising or analytics SDKs are integrated in Frigo — we do not build ad profiles or share identifiers with ad networks, and we collect no behavioral analytics. We do not collect GPS location, your contacts, Apple Health data, browsing history, or biometrics. Frigo is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

How we use your information

To run your account and the app's features — your feed, recipes, pantry, stats, and shared meals.
To personalize your experience — recipe suggestions, browse tiles, and insights based on what you cook, what's in your pantry, and your dietary preferences.
To improve Frigo and develop new features, including through the de-identified, aggregated data described below.
To power AI features — for example, when you add a recipe from a photo or link, or scan a receipt or shelf, the image or page content is sent server-side to our AI provider to return the structured result. Whatever the feature, we send what's needed for that job — not your whole account.
To deliver notifications you've enabled (such as likes, comments, and meal invites).
To operate the invite system and keep Frigo safe — reviewing reported content and enforcing our Terms.
To communicate with you about your account and the service.

We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell it.

De-identified & aggregated data

We may create de-identified or aggregated data from how the community uses Frigo — information that no longer identifies you, like cooking trends, popular ingredients and recipes, or shopping patterns across many users. We may use and analyze this data to operate and improve Frigo, develop new features and content (for example, community-informed recipes or seasonal suggestions), and train the systems that power Frigo's features. We will not attempt to re-identify de-identified data, and this section never overrides the promises above: your identifiable information is not sold and is not used for third-party advertising.

Photos & improving Frigo (your choice)

Photos you take or upload in Frigo — including pantry, receipt, and bookshelf scans — are stored with your account to power the app's features. Unless you opt out, we may also use these photos, and the corrections you make to what Frigo recognized in them, to improve Frigo's recognition features — for example, helping our systems better identify pantry items on a shelf or lines on a receipt.

You can opt out anytime, right on the scan screen or in Settings. Opting out stops your photos from being included in any future improvement work, and it doesn't change or limit your app features in any way. Deleting your account deletes your photos. This improvement use stays inside Frigo — it never overrides the promises above: no selling, no third-party advertising.

Who processes it for us

A small number of service providers process data on our behalf to run Frigo's features. Today, the main ones are:

Supabase — our backend platform: authentication, the database holding your account and content, and photo storage.
Anthropic — our AI provider for Frigo's AI features (like recipe and pantry extraction), as described above.
Apple — distributes the app and delivers push notifications at the device level.

These providers act on our instructions to provide Frigo's features and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes. If we add a provider, we'll update this policy first.

What other people can see

Frigo is social by design, under your control. Your profile (name, avatar, bio) is visible to other signed-in Frigo users. Each post has a visibility you choose — everyone, followers, or just me — and meals you host are visible to the people you invite. Comments and likes appear on the posts they belong to. You can block another user at any time, which prevents you from seeing each other's content entirely.

Beyond that, we disclose personal information only to the processors above, if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public, or as part of a business transfer with notice to you.

Your rights and choices

Download your data — in the app (currently Settings → Download my data): exports a copy of your information.
Delete your account — in the app (currently Settings → Delete Account). This permanently deletes your account and personal data — profile, posts, comments, likes, follows, cooking history, pantry, and your uploaded photos. Recipes you personally wrote and kept private are permanently deleted. Recipes that came from a cookbook or were imported from the web are kept as library content but disassociated from you — your authorship link is removed. Content other people created is theirs and survives: dishes friends added to a meal you hosted remain their posts, and a shared pantry you managed passes to another member.
Control visibility — per-post visibility plus a default you set.
Regional rights — depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data. The in-app export and deletion tools cover the common ones; for anything else, email privacy@cookfrigo.com and we'll help.

Retention & security

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, and deletion works as described above when you close it. Data moves over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), is stored with our backend provider, and access is restricted — including database-level rules that limit each account to its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take protecting your information seriously and fix issues promptly.

Children

You must be at least 13 years old to use Frigo. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact privacy@cookfrigo.com and we will delete it.

International users

Frigo is operated from the United States, and your information is processed in the United States and in the regions where our providers operate. By using Frigo you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in those locations.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email and update the date at the top of this page.
